Where Skin Care Products Started And Come
From!
The market is full of skin
care products. They vary as much in variety as
their uses. There are products to help with wrinkles,
even skin tone, and treat acne. People have been
using skin products dating back as far as 10,000 B.C.
The earliest form was oil based and has been found in
Mesolithic civilization sites to the tombs in Egypt.
In Biblical times it was considered a luxury to have
your feet washed and products applied. Some early
European skin lotions actually killed the people that
applied it.. Their version was a mixture of mercury
and white lead. Royalty used it to give themselves a
chalky white complexion that turned out to be fatal.
It wasn’t until they began falling ill and dying did
the Royal physician put it all together that they
stopped using it.
By the 15th century, peasant herbalists
began adding plant oils to help with fragrance. The
recipes would be passed usually to the female
children. Early skin products used beeswax, rosewater
and olive oils. During the Crusades, the Knights
would bring the women back exotic oils, spices and
flowers. These were especially popular with the
noblewomen. Some skin products were used for
medicinal purposes. To clear skin eruptions or other
skin related issues. Some products contained the
Comfrey leaf, which helped speed healing. Some modern
products still contain it, although the Food and Drug
Administration has warned not to put it on open
wounds. Now, instead of the local healer brewing it
up, the modern version comes from a dermatology lab
after years of research. The variety gets more
advanced with each year that
passes.
Today, there are dozens of types of
products on the market. You can pick them up at local
grocery stores all the way to exclusive spas. For most
women and now men, using skin products has become a
part of their daily routine. Our skin is our most
important asset. We have our skin from birth till
death, so it’s very important to take good care of it.
Most of these products come in a line, meaning they’re
meant to work well with other products from that same
company. When choosing a skin product, you have to
make sure it’s ingredients will not trigger any type
of reaction from your skin. Price is also an issue, if
you’re making it part of your daily routine, it should
be affordable.
